  4. Thanksgiving is a beautiful time to reflect on the past season, we have worked through here on the farm.

March seems like such a long time ago. We were reading our greenhouse to start the planting season! Flowers, planters, herb gardens, tomatoes, cucumbers, garden veggies.... the list goes on!

When we were able to start working our fields this year we planned for beans, cabbage, broccoli, cauliflower, tomatoes all the usual. I traditionally add sunflowers for a cutting garden. And I have tried on several levels to plant a few acres of pumpkins.

Lets talk pumpkins. First attempt, a number of years ago, we planted a few acres in front of our home, and surprisingly they did okay and I wanted more! So for several years I attempted to hand plant acres of seed. Tried to have a "U-Pick Pumpkin Patch", but was overtaken by weeds. Waist high is a little much for families with small children to enjoy such an experience. We had to take the tractor out with its bucket and slug through the weeds to find pumpkins and take them in to our and stand. Not my intention.

But this year, with the help of another farmer I think we finally have it! Charlie, has a number of larger pieces of machinery that we do not. Having use of things like a air seeder, no more hand planting! And an x-large bale chopper, to mulch the field, keeping weeds to a minimum. SO I believe we have the making for a great patch this year.

The fall colors are all around us now, leaves turning, squash and pumpkins all colors in the field. Corn stalks are drying, and as I have them bundled for decorating, the Blue Jays come to eat their fill of yellow kernels from the dry cobs.

All the vegetable are in full swing of harvest now. many people will stop at our gate for many varieties of apples, sweet corn, white, yellow, red and even blue potatoes, rainbow shades of carrots, turnip, green and purple cabbage and fancy beets, some are deep purple, golden and even candy stripped.

As our Thanksgiving weekend draws near, bring your appetite for beauty in a plethora of color, tastes and scents.

Hope to see you down here on the farm!
